Hawaiian Shirts and Grass Skirts

With a big sigh of relief, I am finally able to share our (overdue) pictures from our Open House, last month.  We’ve had a couple busy weeks around the RatnamResidence, so it’s nice to cross one more thing off my ‘to do’ list and share all these wonderful photos…

So, if you remember back about a month ago, we sent out invitations to our local friends and family to come visit for an Open House – a kind of catch-all celebration for Vinay’s Birthday, my Masters graduation, the purchase of our first house, and Avery’s arrival.  We thought it would be great for everyone to get together and see the house, meet Avery, and just have a good ‘ol time together.

Well, a good time we did have.  For starters, my mother and I couldn’t just put on any kind of party, we had to have a theme.  And since it’s winter, we decided to warm things up with a Luau-themed party!  From food to decorations to attire… everything & everyone was festive…even Avery!

We filled our hutch turned wine bar with goodies to make Mai Tai drinks (topped with little umbrellas), and for those requesting less ‘bubbly’ spirits, we made a festive punch bowl (ginger ale, punch juice, frozen sherbert, frozen blueberries, & ice).

And for finger foods, we had cute little palm tree tooth picks…

Although it was January, some of the party moved outside where it was warm enough to play a couple games of cornhole.

(See that ugly chain link fence between us and the neighbors?  That’ll be a white picket fence one day… for now it stays on our Honey-Do List.)

Then as the night came to a close and we had a small group left, we cleared the table of the empty serving platters and played a card game…

And there was a side game of battleship at one point…

This picture is particularly one of my favorites because I look taller than my sister…

But then in reality… she’s been taller than me since she was like 12 (and me 16)

The happy hosts…

My Aunt and Uncle came down from VT…

And if this photo isn’t a testament of how much fun everyone was having… my mother is shown here admiring our friend’s hair… just because…

So, all in all, we had a great time and are so happy everyone joined us to celebrate! Thanks to everyone who joined us and gave us housewarming cards (that they didn’t need to get us!) and for filling our wine bar with even more wine and for sharing such a wonderful time with us!
