High Five for Friday

I’m in a pretty crummy mood this morning.  I forgot to set my alarm last night and slept in this morning – thowing our morning routine off, causing me to be late, and therefore I was stuck in traffic forever and got to work late, which means I need to work late to make up that time, which means I can’t pick Avery up until late, which means less time with him tonight… ugh NOT a good start to the day!

On a brighter note, it’s FRIDAY. T.G.I.F!  That means it’s ‘High Five’ time.  This is our FIFTH week hooking up with Flavors of My Life and From My Grey Desk… pretty awesome I’ve kept this up that long!  So, I’ll put my icky morning aside and share FIVE awesome things from this week…

1. Break out the Winter clothes!

It’s officially COLD! Since Sandy blew thru, it’s been freezing!  We’re kicked on the heat in the house and it’s time for warmer clothes.  The girls at daycare LOVED Avery’s snowman sweater on Thursday.

2. Snow!

This is what I saw when I left the office on Tuesday.  Snow!  I work north-west of where we live and on my way home that night, snow turned to rain.  We didn’t get any snow at home (yet) but I am so excited for Avery to play in the snow this year.  Last year he was big enough to pull around in a sled but didn’t really have a clue what was going on.  This year it’s going to be fun!  Bring on the snow!

3. No-Cry Flu Shot!

IMG_0003

We popped into the doctor’s office this week for Avery second round of his first flu shot.  The nurse poked him and I quickly scooped him up expecting a cry… but…nothing.  Not a noise!  He then proceeded to squirm away from me so he could walk around and play with all the cool gadgets in the room.  Such a big boy!!!

4. Toddler Proof!

Okay, we were a little behind the ball on this one.  Last month my Dad installed baby safe locks on the sink cabinets, and this past weekend we put up a gate around the glass entertainment center – the one full of buttons that Avery LOVES playing with..but isn’t safe.  With the $ we got back from returning Avery’s Bumbo Seat (it was recalled and you can get the most $ back at Babies R Us) we put it towards this monstrosity. Yah, it’s an eyesore, but it keeps Avery safe!

5. Getting Healthy!

I’ll embellish more on this later, but my girl Erin and I have challenged each other.  We’re doing our own Biggest Loser for 16 weeks.  I know, THRU the holidays!  Isn’t it better to start before all the home cooked goodies come out?  Well, we had our first ‘weigh-in’ this morning and I’m winning!!!  If I have time later today at lunch (while I’m eating a salad instead of the FREE PIZZA they give at work on Fridays) I’ll write more about our fun challenge!

What’s your 5 this week?

Kitchen Crawler

Avery is crawling!!!  He is all over the place… so we’ve put up the baby gate and let him roam free!  He now loves playing in the kitchen (where the gate to the basement is) with tupperware and eating popsicles!

“Let me out!”

“…or I’ll climb up and over it!”

“I’m tired of all this moving around… I need a popsicle break!”

We’re so proud of our little guy!  We love watching him move around the house, smacking his little hands on the floor as he goes.  He is hard to keep up with though!  You turn around and he’s trying to climb up on the couch, or on his changing table…. never a dull moment!

How long after your little ones started crawling, did they walk?  We’re not pushing for it… we’re exhausted falling him around now, I can’t imagine him walking all over!!!  Just curious…

Don’t Touch That Dial

It’s starting.  Avery is becoming mobile – which means, he’s getting into EVERYTHING!

When he’s in his walker, he now knows how to navigate to an object he sees, and once he gets to it, he has to touch it or put it in his mouth…

please excuse the awkward side-ways-ness of this video.  I was using my phone and rotated the screen like I was taking a picture.  I don’t think I can rotate a video?

And when he’s on his mats in the living room, rolling around, his blocks and teddy bears are lost interests and he’s moved onto Daddy’s Xbox.

And don’t get me started on handles.  Everything with a handle has to be pulled.  The ring pull on our glass cases under the dining room pilars where Vinay’s model planes are displayed, and this suitcase…

And so it begins…The baby proofing.

We’re starting to move things up high, and we have a baby gate ready to install.  He’s getting very close to crawling, so once he figures that out… oh dear…

Can you share some tips on baby proofing?  Do you have a safe baby area for your little one to roam or do you baby proof the whole house?  I’m thinking of blocking off an play pen (aka ‘jail cell‘) like Lili has at RunAroundMyBlog.
