NUMB3ERS: August

August has come and gone.  I can’t believe it’s already September.  For most, that means back to school.  For us, that means we’ve been blogging for ONE YEAR!  Yep, it’s been a whole year since our first post, when we moved into our new house.  We’ll ‘celebrate’ this next week with a fun post, but before we look back at the whole year, here’s a recap of August in the RatnamResidence

The Blog

23,764 all-time visits.  Whew, that’s a lot for our first year!

2,286 visitors checked us out this month.  Where do they come from? The top FOUR countries are:

1 US    2 Canada    3 UK    4 India

august international site visitors

It’s pretty cool that people across the world are checking us out from countries like Australia and the Philipines.  What I wonder is, where our readers come from within the US.  Hey WordPress, can you give us a map showing that too?  Any other bloggers wish they could see that too?

125 Followers. 11 people have joined us in the past month!  Who are they? Victoria Elizabeth Barnes (She’s blogging about renovating her 1890 Victorian Home), Kate (She and her husband take adventures with their little one in tow), Natalie and Maya (They have a design studio and blog about design, fashion, and food.  I heart their website design)…

28 people searched the net for ‘bumbo seat’ and stumbled upon us.  Maybe this is because of the recent recall for bumbo seats?  Do you have a bumbo seat? What are you doing with it now that it’s recalled?  Other popular search terms to find us were:

19 Posts.  Bleh, not ideal as I hope to post daily M-F, but typically one day a week I skip because I’m swamped at work or have to run out for errands at lunch (when I typically write).  How often do you post to your blog, and how do you find time to!?

duck race trophy

1 Duck trophy.  I won the annual duck race at our Chinese New Year themed family reunion. And Vinay ‘volenteered’ to be on the committe to plan next year’s reunion!

2 Avery took his first two steps while we were in California.  Didn’t surprise us, as Avery started crawling our last trip out there! He is now on the move, walking everywhere! I can’t believe he’s almost a toddler! He even said his first words this month!

3 I am knee deep into the three books of the ‘Fifty Shades series‘… Loving them!  Reading is a nice escape and great for relaxing right before bed – I even escaped one day during lunch to read because I couldn’t put the book down!

baby penguin11 items on my ‘to do’ list on our rainy weekend.  We got lots done and Avery loved ‘helping’.

16 Avery had his sixteenth doctor’s appointment this year – they found another ear infection.  Avery stayed home with Daddy for a day on antibiotics before returning to daycare.  He’s all better and no penguins were hurt in the process…

50 I must have sent out over 50 invitations to Avery’s First Birthday Party. And come to think of it, I only have 12 RSVPs so far… come on people… has the RSVP died?  I bet the week of the party I’ll hear from the remaining 30 something invitees.

country concert9 I waited nine long months since Vinay gave me tickets at Christmas – to Country Fest.  We enjoyed a fun date night together listening to Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney.

430 Is the new time Avery and I get home every day.  Our new ‘schedule‘ with Avery’s new daycare means less commuting and we’re home earlier!

new couch delivered

0 After our unexpected trip to California, we stayed home the month of August – sticking with our plan to travel less and spend more time at home as a family relaxing and resting from our busy week.

2 We had zero pieces of furniture for a week while we swapped out our ‘old’ sofa bed and got a TWO new pieces that are family friendly with an ottoman!

11 looming student loans left to pay off.  Yay!  I paid off one this past month and I’m chipping away at them with the goal of having them all paid off by my 30th birthday (3 years away), and then we can have little Ratnam #2!

Check out recaps from earlier in the year -  January,  February, March, April, May, June, July

NUMB3ERS: July

It’s already August?!  I can’t believe summer is already half-way thru.  Why is it that the summer months fly by, but winter creeps on?  The curse of living in the Northeast, I guess.  Here’s a little recap of the past month in the RatnamResidence:

The Blog

1 Guest Post  We had and wrote our first guest blog posts this month!  Mel dropped in and wrote about 10 Fun Ways to Celebrate Your Anniversary, while I popped on over to her blog to share our tips/tricks on selecting a daycare.

1 Award! We were nominated for the The Very Inspiring Blogger Award!  Check out all our awards here.

Who’s been checking us out?  The top FOUR countries are still (same as last month):

9 people googled ‘ratnam residence’… but there were 6 more popular search terms…

1 “how to get self discipline”
2 “bumbo seat”

500+ Likes We got this really cool announcement this month…

1,000+ Comments We received our one thousandth comment this month, yay!  Love hearing your feedback, tips, suggestions, and encouragement.  We are averaging 169 comments per month!

2,564 Visitors That’s more people than residents in the town I grew up in!

3,402 comments our spam catcher has gobbled up.  It’s pretty sad now that I think of it that we’ve gotten three times as many spam comments as actual comments.  Boo.

Avery

IMG_2024[1]1 Week with Grammy.  When Avery’s (old) daycare was on vacation for a week last month, Grammy stayed and watched Avery.  They had a fun time taking walks, visiting the park, and playing in Avery’s new pool!

2 Daycares  Avery’s daycare closed in July and we hurridly found him a new one… which he started this week.  We’ll share an update on it soon!

photo66 Teeth.  Yep, Avery now has six pearly whites!  Here’s using them to chomp on table foods, bagels, and trains.  We’re trying to feed him as much ‘people food’ as possible… small pieces of meat, mashed potatoes, etc.  because he really isn’t enjoying the chunky ’3rd Foods’ from Gerber.

9 Months.  Avery turned 9 months old and had his routine 9-month check-up.  He’s still tall, lean, and has a big head!

130 Dollars Was all I spent on these baby bargains from CL.  Score!

baby pool 61 Date Night.  We had the most exciting date night thus far… Cirque du Soleil!

2 Kids We gave you a little insight in this post on our thoughts about planning Baby #2.  For right now, there will only be one little monkey in our house… especially when he is pulling stunts like this, and still not sleeping thru the night!

0 Progress on our icky bathroom.  I have tons of ideas and am planning a big renovation for this winter… more to come!

Summer Lovin’ Pool Fun

It’s summer.  It’s hot.  Let’s get a pool!

No, it’s not in-ground, filtered, quipped with a diving board and pool bar, but it does keep Avery cool…

Here’s the new pool with Avery & Auntie Sarah testing it out – before it even had water!
baby pool 7

It’s big enough for adults & small enough for kiddos…

baby pool 9

And the sides blow up, so it’s safe for Avery to cruise along, and tall enough to keep him from falling overboard…

baby pool 8

Here’s a few wet ones of Avery enjoying the pool with his week at home with Grammy

baby pool 3

Parenting Tip: Don’t buy beach/pool toys… use bath toys!

baby pool 4

Don’t you just LOVE Avery’s adorable swim trunks and UV protected shirt?

baby pool 1

And the faces when he’s wet… haha.  When he splashed himself or falls down, he doesn’t cry, he just makes silly faces like this…

baby pool 2

And since Avery loves pools so much, we took him to Uncle Mike’s pool in Vermont while we were visiting Grammy & Grampy.

baby pool 5

See him clinging to Vinay?  He wasn’t digging it.  He was holding onto Daddy for dear life, like when we went to the ocean the first and second times.  Maybe it’s just the large expanse of water that’s scary.

Although Avery didn’t care for the bigger pool, we did get in a nice family picture!

baby pool 6

How do you cool off in the summer?  Do you have a kiddie pool too?  Or a big fancy in-ground one?  Do you use your neighbors or just run through the sprinkler?

  • Oye!  Grammy got Avery’s kiddie pool for a steal of $20! Just saw it in this week’s circular for Christmas Tree Shop if you want one too…
  • Oyye! Uncle Mike’s pool is my parent’s old pool.  Another bargain deal!
